Next Big Thing Blog Hop

My good friend Jax Cassidy asked me to participate in the Next Big Thing Blog Hop today. Check out her post from last week to see what she’s working on.

She asked me a few questions about what I’ve been writing recently, so here it goes…

What is the working title of your book?
A Marquess for Christmas

Where did the idea come from for the book?
My friend and fellow author, Eden Bradley convinced me to write a Christmas-themed book. We tossed around some ideas and this was the story that clicked. The basic premise is a man and woman who meet on the road during a robbery. The hero is injured and cannot remember his name. The heroine takes him in and nurses him back to health, but things heat up very quickly as both are irresistibly attracted to one another.

What genre does your book fall under?

Historical Erotic Romance / Erotic Regency

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
Kit aka Daniel Cosgrove, Marquess of Kittrick would be played by Olivier Martinez
Violet Laurens would be played by a younger Kate Beckinsale

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
A proper widow. A rakish marquess. He rescued her from thieves, but will she be able to save him from himself?

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

I put out the book myself. It just released last week.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
It took about two months. Originally, this book was to be a novella, but no matter what I did, I couldn’t make the book short. The characters insisted on getting a novel.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
It is pretty explicit. Two other authors that write erotic Regency/historical are Emma Wildes and Sabrina Darby.

Who or what inspired you to write this book?
Eden Bradley was the initial inspiration for this book. During the writing, I got a lot of encouragement from KB Alan and Marie Hall and various ladies at Romance Divas and Moriah Jovan’s Write Chat.

Most of all, the characters themselves inspired me. Violet Laurens is a strong heroine. She’s a lady, but she’s experienced dark things in her past

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
It is a bit unconventional. The hero is a man who knows his way around a gaming hell, illegal boxing rings, and, of course, the bedroom. But he’s also someone struggling to be himself, to find a way to reconcile who he has to be with who he wants to be. The heroine is a lady, but she doesn’t run away from the darker things in life. She went with her husband to war and assisted the soldiers during difficult times. She is not afraid when thieves accost her on the road and she is not intimidated when she learns about Kit’s legal and illegal boxing activities.

The love scenes are pretty explicit and involve a light BDSM element as both try to get the upper hand in bed.

Here is the full blurb:

A proper widow. A rakish marquess. He rescued her from thieves, but will she be able to save him from himself?

When Violet Laurens is rescued from highwaymen, the furthest thing from her mind is that her heart might tumble next. She loves her independent life, no matter her lonely bed. The handsome stranger reawakens the passion she thought buried along with her husband, pushing her to new heights of desire. But she knows it’s only a matter of time before he remembers his name and leaves her.

The dissolute Marquess of Kittrick has vowed never to marry, causing a rift in his family that sets him on the road just in time to do battle with ruffians intent on stealing a lady’s coins—and more. Discovering the fiery wanton beneath the widow’s oh-so-proper demeanor makes him want nothing more than to forget who he is for just a bit longer. Maybe forever.

When Kit is forced to acknowledge who he is, will the truth trump their shared passion, and the love they can’t quite admit to? Or will Violet overcome her fear—and Kit his dissolute ways–and be able to lay claim to A Marquess for Christmas?

Here are a few other authors participating in The Next Big Blog Hop. Check out their blogs on January 2nd to see what projects they are currently working on.

Marie Hall – Marie Hall has always had a dangerous fascination for creatures that go bump in the night. And mermaids. And of course fairies. Trolls. Unicorns. Shapeshifters. Vampires. Scottish brogues. Kilts. Beefy arms. Ummm… Bad boys! Especially the sexy ones.

On top of that she’s a confirmed foodie, she nearly went to culinary school and then figured out she could save a ton of money if she just watched food shows religiously! She’s a self-proclaimed master chef, certified deep sea dolphin trainer, finder of leprechaun’s gold at the end of the rainbow, and rumor has it she keeps the Troll King locked away in her basement. All of which is untrue, however, she does have an incredibly active imagination and loves to share her crazy thoughts with the world!

Lia Sebastian – Lia Sebastian is a romance writer who by day masquerades as a corporate writer and editor. Every now and then the words threaten to overwhelm her, but she considers this an occupational hazard. She lives in the United States with her two dogs. They have real names, but their superhero monikers are Jaws and Claws. They are cute enough to overcome these appellations. Lia is a devoted advocate of cream cheese pastries, dog training (positive-style, please), and the proper use of semicolons.

Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and I wish you a Blessed and Happy New Year!
